

Rex attended school in Clearwater, Nebraska, before continuing his education in Laramie, Wyoming, and Pocatello, Idaho. Throughout his career, he worked in the agricultural inputs industry, serving with several companies over the years. In September 1980, he married Julie Tsunemori, and together they built a life centered on faith, family, and lasting relationships.
Rex loved spending time outdoors enjoying both gardening as well as outdoor sports. Above all, he treasured his family. He was deeply grateful for the close relationships he shared with his extended family, and that love and appreciation were reflected in the way he lived with kindness, generosity, and unwavering devotion to those he cared about.
Rex is survived by his wife, Julie (Tsunemori) Hopkins; his children, Tom (Stephanie) Hopkins and Elizabeth (Fred) Sassen; and his grandchildren, Victor and Myra Hopkins, and Emilia, Grace, Rose, Frances, and Juliette Sassen. He is also survived by his siblings, Fred (Joan) Hopkins, Linda Kirkconnell, Maxine Duran, Joe Hopkins, and Lee Hopkins, Sr., as well as many nieces and nephews, an uncle, numerous cousins, and many special friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 17, 2026, at Allnutt Funeral & Cremation – Macy, 6521 W. 20th Street, Greeley, Colorado 80634. Inurnment will take place at a later date at Royal Cemetery in Royal, Nebraska.
