Richard L. Baumgartner of Keenesburg, Colorado died May 12, 2019 at his home. He was born on June 10, 1944 somewhere in Colorado, to Ruben and Ruth Baumgartner. Richard was raised in Keenesburg on the farm. As a child he was often found ditching school in the fields his dad farmed. He met Linda, during their high school years. They soon became high school sweethearts. They graduated together in 1963. They were married two years later on June 19, 1965. During those two years, Richard worked at the local gas station and attended mechanic school. In October of 1966, he was drafted into the United States Marines. He served for close to 2 years, barely escaping a bullet that hit his helmet 2 weeks before he was to come home. He was proud of his service but not overly fond of the memories that accompanied it and didn't talk about it at all until way later in life. After returning home, he and Linda began to farm with his brothers and dad. They had four children, Curtis, Shelly, Erin and Candice, and led a simple life. The family worked together and played together. He grew to love the land, the farming, and the life it provided. Farming, along with fishing trips, his children and extended family were his passions and hobbies in life. Richard took the loss of Linda in November 2003 very hard. He continued to farm for a couple more years then let Curtis take over things. He spent the remainder of his life, checking on the fields, the kids and the grandkids. He is survived by daughters; Shelly (Bryan) Copeland of Keenesburg Colorado, Erin (John) Moreland of Brighton Co, Candice (Glenn) Palmer Wiggins, Co, son; Curtis (Leslie) Baumgartner of Keenesburg Co, sister; Lori (Randy) Grindle Wiggins Co, brother; Rodney (Helen) Baumgartner of Keenesburg Co, grandchildren; Sydney, Taya, Braden and Tanner Baumgartner, Tristan, (Julia), Harlea, Kash and Kacee Copeland all from Keenesburg Colorado, Savannah and Trinity Moreland of Brighton Colorado, Chloe, Quincy, and Whitnee Palmer of Wiggins Colorado. My cousin Richard was always so kind to me. Even though I didn't see him often he would always try to tease me. He was very quiet, but very observant! He made this world a better place!
