Richard Ireland

Richard was born to Frank and Nellie (Campbell) Ireland on February 18, 1923 in Yuma County, Colorado. He attended Champion Valley Elementary School and Yuma High School.

On May 28, 1942, he married Twila Brown in St. Francis, Kansas. Together they settled in Yuma, Colorado, where their union was blessed with two daughters, Lynneta and Barbara. They eventually moved to Otis, Colorado, where they resided until retirement.

Richard was a farmer/rancher and truck owner and driver. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1943-1946 and was honorably discharged. He served on the U.S.S. Rowen Flagship as a Naval Radioman. During his military service, he was awarded the Pacific Theater Medal, the American Theater Medal, the Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.

Richard and Twila began retirement as RVer’s and settled in Yuma, Arizona. A year after Twila’s passing, Richard moved to San Diego, California, where he resided until November 2013. He lived the last ten months of his life at Seven Lakes Memory Care in Loveland.

Richard is survived by daughters, Lynneta Ireland and husband, Larry Pickrell and Barbara Ireland; six grandchildren, Stuart Fuhlendorf and wife, Trish, Staci Fuhlendorf, Lisa Newberry, Devin Nelson and wife, Starr, Jennie Jahn and husband, Dave and Sammye Johnson and husband, Paul; ten great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by three sisters, Dorothy Renzelman, Doris Kauffman and husband, Ben and Kathryn Corrine Hathaway and sisters-in-law, Arlene Ireland and Verne Ireland, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Twila and her parents, George K. and Zeporra Brown and three brothers, Kenneth, Bill and Duane.

Visitation will be from 9:00-11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 8, 2014 followed by Funeral service at 11:00 a.m. both at Stoddard Funeral Home. Private family interment will be held at Otis Cemetery, Otis, CO.
