

Robert Gary Hughes, 88, of Johnstown, Colorado, passed away on November 25, 2025. He was born on October 28, 1937, in Ord, Nebraska, to Robert C. and Donna (Burrows) Hughes. Raised alongside his sister and three brothers, Bob graduated from Ord High School in 1956 before enlisting in the United States Navy, where he proudly served until October 1962.
On May 22, 1965, Bob married Ann Cornelison. Together they shared 60 wonderful years and raised their two children, Jodi and Damon. A dedicated and hardworking iron worker, Bob was a proud member of the Iron Workers Union and built a career defined by strength, skill, and integrity.
After retiring, Bob found great joy in his workshop, crafting beautiful birdhouses and spending time with the tools and projects he loved. He was an avid reader and cherished his weekly visits and conversations with friends at the Johnstown Library. A passionate sports fan, Bob rarely missed a Broncos or Rockies game and remained devoted to all things Nebraska, always eager to talk about his home state. Above all, he loved spending time with his grandchildren. They were his pride and joy.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents, Robert C. and Donna Hughes; his son, Damon Hughes; and his youngest brother, John Hughes.
He is survived by his wife, Ann Hughes; his daughter, Jodi (Jerry) Black; his sister, Kay Fanning; his brothers, Lan Hughes and Leslie Hughes; his grandsons, Jameson Sherwood, Kyle Sherwood, and Jacob Black; his honorary daughter, Kelly Wildeman Hughes; his dear friend, Sam Gunter; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, December 7, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Stoddard Funeral Home. In honor of Bob's love of sports, the family invites guests to wear their favorite sports jersey.
He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew and loved him.
