Mr. Pitts was born September 27, 1929 in Mt. Vernon, Texas to Alphy and Molly Pitts. Mr. Pitts moved to Denver, Colorado and worked for Gates Rubber Company for 15 years. He met his wife, Elizabeth Eckhart in Denver and they were married for 60 years until she preceded him in death in 2015. Mr. Pitts moved to Greeley in 1965 and began working as manager of the Texaco full service station. In 1970 he built his own full service station right across the street from Texaco and put them out of business. He then started a company as a gas distributor for Little America and Sinclair until he retired and became a farmer and rancher for several years. He also worked as a golf pro at the Greeley Country Club. He won a Pro Am tournament and qualified to be on the PGA tour. Mr. Pitts was an amazing father who was there for his children no matter what, until his last day. He was loved by everyone he met, he was charismatic and had many good friends.
Mr. Pitts was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Pitts, his parents, Alphy and Molly Pitts, and seven of his siblings.
Mr. Pitts is survived by his two children: Robert Pitts and Deborah Stevens of Greeley, Colorado, three grandchildren: April Pitts of Kansas, Curtis and Travis Metcalf, both of Granby, Colorado, six great grandchildren, siblings: Charles of Paris, Texas and sisters, Arge and Joan of Denver, Colorado, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A viewing will be held at Stoddard Funeral Home on Tuesday, February 22nd from 5-8 pm at Stoddard Funeral Home at 3205 West 28th Street in Greeley, Colorado.
