He married Dixie Lee Strohauer Nov. 20, 1965, at the little First Baptist Church on the corner in La Salle, CO.
He was the 5th born into a family of 6 children. He was a farmer's son and never lost his love of farming. He recalls his first home being a small 6-acre place in Evans, Co. His family seemed to move often, places like Severance, Grover and La Salle. He attended schools in BeeBee Draw, Evans and La Salle. He taught our kids that working hard was the best way to success. Bob did just that, hard work and perseverance, gave us a very good life.
His first paying job was with Monfort Feedlot, in 1965. He had that job for 15 years. Rocky Mountain Supply for 10 years. Followed by a milling job at Winter Hawk Oil and lastly Strohauer Farms.
We bought our own farm, and enjoyed that time, but after 5 years we sold out. It had become evident that his body could no longer take the hard work and the hours. He did not walk away from farming but went to work for his brother-in law at Strohauer Farms, working there for 30+ years.
If he ever had a "hobby" it was his love of cars. We owned a 1930 Model T Ford, 1960 Corvette, 1923 T Bucket, 1998 Z 28 Convertible, a 1967 4 on the floor Red GTO. Also, a 1955 Chevy. Every time he sold one, he would pout for days.
He survived a life altering car wreck in 1967. He was born with a crippling disease called "Osteogeneses Imperfacta". Meaning soft/brittle bones. He has lived a life of cracked and broken bones. The pain he lived with never eased up, it grows more intent the older one gets. He battled this evil and picked himself up and forged ahead. In 2019 he started to have small accidents and hospitalized many times. Each more severe than the one before. His final accident was September 1, 2023. He came home from Life Care on September 28,2023. So, he passed away at home, which is right where he needed to be.
Bob is survived by: His wife Dixie of 58 years. His son Eric, daughter Stacie and sister Alice Krieger. Brother-in-law Harry Strohauer and wife Katie, Sister-in-law Janice Meyer and husband Peter, Sister-in-law Barbare Dismang. And many, many nieces and nephews.
