She was born August 26, 1939 in Colorado Springs to Russell and Helen Anderson. She graduated from Palmer High School in 1957 and then graduated from the University of Colorado. After graduation, she was employed as a social worker for the Colorado Springs Juvenile Correction Program. She then attended Colorado College for her teaching credential and was an elementary school teacher in Denver when she met Lawrence (Larry) Menefee on Labor Day 1963. Four months later on January 9, 1964, they were married at Washington Park Methodist Church in Denver. This January would have been their 60th Anniversary. They had three children–Scott, Lynn, and Michael.
In 1972, Larry’s banking career moved them to Greeley where he opened Weld Colorado Bank for business. After Larry started Union Colony Bank with other local investors, she furthered her education, receiving her Master’s Degree at the University of Northern Colorado and began her private family and marriage counseling practice. This was a very satisfying time for her and helped many clients over the next eighteen years.
As a community outreach effort, she conducted evening divorce adjustment seminars for many years to help in people’s adjustment to life after divorce. It was important to Bobbie to donate her time to help support her local community. Over the years, she was active in A Woman’s Place, KUNC, The League of Women Voters, the church, and taught classes at AIMS community college. She loved her bridge group and book study group. After retirement, Bobbie and Larry spent many winters in their Green Valley, Arizona home where she was active in the Good Shepherd Church.
Bobbie approached life with curiosity and wonder. Her intellect, wit, empathy, active listening and refreshing directness led her to be a wonderful conversationalist, dear friend, and an excellent parent. She enjoyed her many friends, being outdoors, traveling, visiting museums and the Denver Botanic Gardens, dancing, art, books, dogs, and music.
Her greatest joy was being with her family: Scott and Wendy Menefee, Michael and Tracey Kellogg Menefee, Lynn and Deb Crippen-Menefee, granddaughter Emma Crippen-Menefee and her dog Zoe. All live in Colorado. She is survived by her husband and children and grandchild and her brother Russell Anderson and his wife Kerry.
