Ron was born January 4, 1940 to Albert and Leah Englehardt in Denver, Colorado. They were living in Derby, Colorado when WWII broke out and then moved to Lawrence, Kansas, where Al helped build an ammunition plant. After the war was over, his family lived in a small trailer while traveling in our mountains and Yellowstone Park building bridges and tunnels.
When Ron was 4, they moved to Prospect Valley, where they farmed. Ron went to school all 12 years at the Prospect Valley School and he graduated in 1957. Ron excelled in sports and lettered all 4 years in basketball, football and baseball.
After high school, Ron went to UNC for one year and realized this was not for him. He went to work following his Grandfather and Dad in the carpenter trade. Ron was very proud of the many structures that he helped build in Denver.
In 1959, Ron met his soon to be wife and they married in 1961. Ron and Linda had three daughters and were married for 58 years.
He lived in Prospect Valley for most of his life. He farmed and drove to Denver for his carpenter work. He was a union carpenter for 45 years.
Ron was a very active member of the Zoar Congregational Church. He started attending Sunday school at 5 years of age. Ron was a Deacon for over 40 years.
He was on the S.E. Weld Fair Board and he helped build many of the structures that were at the old fair grounds in Keenesburg.
He loved to hunt and fish. After Ron retired, he started raising pheasants and releasing them but he soon found he was only feeding the fox. Big game hunting was his passion (elk and deer) and every fall he would go to the mountains. After hunting, he enjoyed fishing and felt he didn’t do enough of it. Ron was very happy to say he was from Prospect Valley.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Al and Leah Englehardt, grandson, Shaun Wells and many aunts, uncles, cousins and good friends.
He is survived by his wife, Linda and daughters, Wendy Englehardt, Robin Johnson (Travis) and Angela Englehardt; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.
