Born August 14, 1940 to Roland and Marie Rumsey in Greeley, CO, Ross spent his whole life in Weld County, growing up during his younger years in Kersey where he graduated from Kersey High School in 1958. In 1966, he married a spunky young lady named Virginia Adler and happily took on a new and exciting life with her and her son Larry, whom he raised like his own.
Early in his career, Ross began working for Monfort Feedlots as a cowboy checking pens, later working his way up through the ranks to a managerial position before retiring after 35 years later of employment. During this time, Ross began raising Suffolk lambs for 4H kids to show at local fairs. To this day, many adults in the area remember buying their lambs from Ross and showing them as young children, exemplifying Ross’ impact on their lives.
Later in life Ross enjoyed helping out on a family member’s ranch during branding and going to the UNC Women’s basketball game for which he held season tickets for several seasons. At the ripe old age of 80, Ross started enjoying long bike rides, some up to 18 miles in length, along the Poudre River Trail on his three-wheeled bicycle, eliciting many comments and smiles from passerby’s. He also thoroughly enjoyed spending time with family in the area.
Ross was preceded in death by his wife Virginia, his son Larry, his parents and his sister, Eunice. He is survived by nephews Trent Miller (Cindy) of Golden, and Bryce Miller of Fernandina Beach, FL, and by many close family members including cousins, and grand nephews and nieces in the immediate Weld County area.
A Graveside Service will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens, 3400 W. 28th Street, Greeley, CO 80634, on April 23, 2026, at 11:00 am. A reception will follow at Allnutt Funeral Service, Macy Chapel.
