Ruby JoAnn “Jo” Shaffer, 85, of Kersey, passed away Wednesday, October 31, 2018 at her home. She was born on June 21, 1933 in Brush, Colorado, the only child, to Joseph and Florence Shaffer. She was proud to be the first cesarean birth in Brush.
Jo lived in Brush until she was five and then lived in Englewood, Littleton and then Kersey. She was a part of the first class to graduate from Littleton High School. Jo was raised a Christian.
Jo worked for and retired from Texaco, in the oil industry, as a bookkeeper. She was a member of the Kersey Senior Center, the Kersey Tree and Museum Board and served on the board for the Centennial Village Heritage Days. She dressed in 1800 attire and helped as a tour guide. She taught the Kersey Seniors to line dance when she first came to Kersey. People recognized Jo as she faithfully walked her dogs around town and stopped and visited with anybody she could,
Jo was an avid Denver Bronco and a John Elway fan. She was raised next to the Centennial Race Track and was very proud of the fact that she mowed the lawn inside the track.
Jo is survived by her grandchildren, Jesse Shane Keith, Mariah (Richard) Hedges, Levi Shane (Debbie) Keith, Shilo Marie Keith and James William Keith; great-grandchildren, Addison, Alaina, Celeste, Marilyn and Morgan. She is also survived by her fur babies, Rocky and Bull.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two sons, Shane and Scott Keith and one grandson, Scott Joseph II.
