Ruth Mae Shepherd

87, of Greeley

Ruth Mae Shepherd went to be with The Lord on Tuesday February 11, 2014 at the Greeley Place in Greeley Colorado at the age of 87. Ruth was born in Chugwater Wyoming March 7, 1926 to Homer and Myrtle Harry.

She attended school in Chugwater and Shoshoni Wyoming. Ruth was working at Chugwater Hill when she met Robert “Bob” Shepherd. Soon after, they married in Sydney Nebraska on June 20, 1942.

While Bob was deployed at war, Ruth gave birth to their first child Patsy Kay Shepherd in 1942 in California where they were stationed. When Bob got out of the military they moved to Colorado to work at a Dairy farm in the mountains outside of Estes Park in 1945. Ruth gave birth to their second child Robert “Bobby” Shepherd in Longmont in 1946. Ruth and her family moved to Walden Colorado in the spring of 1948 where they ran their own cattle ranch for 14 years. Ruth gave birth to their third child Ronald Lee Shepherd in 1948 in Lander Wyoming.

Ruth would cook for all the hired men and help out with ranch duties while they ran their own ranch. She also had several jobs in the town of Walden to help out as well. After Ruth and Bob sold their ranch, they managed other ranches for 9 years. In 1969 they worked for Allards where they would run cows in the mountains of Walden in the summer and run cows in the Greeley area in the winter. In 1977 Ruth and Bob adopted their grandsons Scott and Mike Shepherd. Ruth worked a couple different jobs; one of her favorites was when she worked for UNC, where she got to cook for the Denver Broncos during their summer training. She retired at the age of 64. During retirement she and her husband enjoyed traveling to Arizona for the winter.

Ruth loved The Lord and her family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Bob Shepherd, 1 brother and 6 sisters.

Ruth is survived by her children: Patsy (Pat) Cox of Texas, Bobby (Ramona) Shepherd of Lasalle CO, Ronald (Denise) Shepherd of Canada, Scott (JJ) Shepherd of Greeley CO, Mike (Candi) Shepherd of Greeley CO. grand children : Becky (Jamie) Budden of Canada, Carol Shepherd of Canada, Tammy White of Ft. Collins CO, Tracy (Cindy) White of Montana, and Christine (Les) Amory of Nebraska, 12 great grandchildren and 14 great-great grandchildren.

Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at the Gilcrest Baptist Church.
