Sally was born in Lansing, Michigan on July 12, 1935. She was the oldest of four children born to Robert and Edith Clark. She spent her early years in Lansing and graduated from Sexton High School and MSU. During that time, she met Charles Porter, her high school sweetheart, whom she married on August 17, 1957. They enjoyed 60 years together. The two started their married life in the Army at Fort Benning, Georgia and Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri before heading back to Michigan for work in education and to start their family. In 1971, they moved their young family to Fort Collins, Colorado. Sally worked at the Larimer County Vocational Technical Center and then for many years at CSU, most of them in the Lory Student Center. Sally and Chuck both retired from CSU.
Sally learned to knit from her father and enjoyed knitting her whole life. She loved to read, play cards, go for walks, and spend time with her family. Sally was an active member of Westminster Presbyterian Church for over 40 years. Sally and her husband loved to travel. They visited many countries and also visited their children and other family members around the country. Since 1941, Sally especially loved to visit the family cottage on Gun Lake in Michigan.
Thankful for having shared her life are: her husband of 60 years, Charles Porter; her children, son Kevin Porter (Pam) of Colorado Springs, daughter Janet Hamilton of Fort Collins, daughter Diane Porter of Fort Collins, daughter Ruth Warner (Mike) of Grand Junction, Colorado; her grandchildren, Brandy Porter, Sean Porter, Selah Porter and Dmitri Warner; great grandchildren, Bailey and Arianna Porter; sisters, Sue Creaser and Jane Clark; and brother, Robert Clark.
