It is with deep sadness that we share that Terry Allan Scott passed peacefully on June 10, 2026, in Greeley, Colorado. He fought long and hard to remain with his wife, Jean Meyer-Scott, and his family. His parents, the late Richard Scott and Charlotte (Inman) Scott, provided Terry and his late sister, Susan Snook with an idyllic small-town upbringing in Seymour, Iowa. Following his graduation from Seymour High School in 1960, Terry went o Iowa State University to receive his BS in physics. After a short stint teaching high school physics, Terry fell in love with the west, while pursuing his PhD in Low Temperature Physics at the University of Wyoming in Laramie. His passion for cross-country skiing, backpacking and camping inspired him to buy a piece of the Rockies in Crystal Mountain. He tirelessly built a log cabin and loved to share the joys of nature with any who would join him there. Tragically, the cabin burned in the 2020 fires. Terry also enjoyed the outdoors in Vermont, Missouri and Oregon while teaching there. Along the way, he received his MS in Computer Science from Kansas State. But his heart was in Colorado, so he settled in Greeley where he was a professor of Computer Science for 25 years at the University of Northern Colorado. While there he met and married Jean, a fellow transplanted Iowan at an aerobics class. He became a dedicated father to her young son, Jonathan Meyer. Throughout his life, Terry was known for his love of dogs, jokes, environmentalism, and ice cream. Many were blessed by his humble, helpful nature and his ability to fix anything. In his later years, he enjoyed daily crosswords and the Denver Nuggets. Those who lovingly remember him include his wife, Jean; son, Jon and his wife Nicole; as well as granddaughter, Hadley Marie Scott Meyer - who carries on the Scott family name. Also mourning his loss are friends and a loving extended family. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister.
A celebration of life will be held Monday, July 27, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Stoddard Funeral Home, 3205 West 28th Street, Greeley, CO 80634. Casual dress is encouraged. To join the livestream on the date of service please see the link below in the Services Section.
