This is much belated but I met Tom in September 1979 at a budget meeting in Denver not long after I joined CSU.  I had a rough time with the Governor's budget analysts that day and received some sage advice from Tom. I knew Tom as a man of honor, integrity and professionalism. He was widely respected at CSU and did a great job until his retirement. I left CSU in 2005 and only recently learned of his passing. I still miss his presence and attitude. My belated condolences.

There are not words to express how much I miss my dad.  He lives in every tree I see, lives in my memory and deeply within my heart.

I was saddened to read of Tom's death.  I first met him at Trees For Tomorrow in the summer of 1955 and finished the camp season in his stead when he went back to school.  Later, in 1969 I undertook a master's program at CSU.  Tom was a member of my graduate committee.  Of course, I had followed his career through Society of American Forester communications and, more recently, CSU communications.  I always admired Tom and felt he was a fine role model.  He will be missed!

My very belated condolences for your loss and ours.   I will always have found childhood memories of playing golf with Tom and my Dad, Don, at the Ft Collins country club and later in Arizona with all their golf buddies.  Spent quite a few evenings hanging out at your house while our parents shared good conversation and laughs. When I heard from Beth that Tom had died, I was shocked.  It has been several years since Tom and I last exchanged E-mails, but the thought that either of us might pass away just never entered our minds.
I will remember Tom forever.  We were partners at work, buddies at meetings, enjoyed good times together, and were close friends from the very first time that we met.  Our relationship was as positive as it could be, and the credit goes to Tom.  He was the most likeable man I ever met.

Tom helped grow the Colorado State Forest Service from a seedling promotion operation to a full service forestry resource for all Coloradoans.  My CSFS career, begun with the interview with Tom, reflected the agency growth and maturity, and Tom encouraged me along the way.  His involvement with the national Society of American Foresters inspired my own.  It was a pleasure to know Tom, and he is missed.

I was deeply saddened to hear that Tom has left us. He was a unique  
and giving individual and I shall miss him. It is difficult not being there locally. If I was, I would take you out to a place where we could see the mountains at sunset and give you a big hug. My Dearest Beth --
You will never know how much I appreciated downloading your voice mail moments ago, although the nature of it is very shocking and saddening.  You knew I would want to know of your father's passing; thank you so much for taking the time to share the information with me, and in such detail.
Your father was many things, but what sticks out most in my mind was the gentleman he was.  He had a quiet, yet a big spirit.  I would like to remember him as being a ""Gentle Giant"".  I always kept the thank you notes he'd send me when I would send him a greeting card, as I marveled at the fact that he, TOM BORDEN, took time to respond to 'lil' ole me'.  But...that was your father -- warm-hearted.  I wasn't able to remember him on Father's Day this year, as I am recovering from a recent hospitalization.  
Please know that I am most sorry for your lost, Beth.  I am so thankful that I had the opportunity to not only meet your beloved father, but to dine at his table and become someone he considered a friend.  He was such a WONDERFUL man.
Again...I cannot thank you enough for telephoning me.  Please remember me to your darling mother and remind her that I sleep with my red pillow EVERY NIGHT, even when I was in the hospital!

I am a past president of the SAF Alpha student chapter at CSU and Tom will be greatly missed by all.
He was an amazing speaker with an incredibile history. Our chapter was priviledged to have him come and speak numerous times. He always left us smiling and appreciating the things we have. CSU forestry students are greatful for the use of his property. Our deepest condolences to all of his loved ones from the SAF Alpha student chapter. We will always keep his memory alive!

I will miss my ""Uncle Tom"" very much,as my parents and ""Aunt Rogene"" and he were great friends.  My siblings and the Bordens kids were all the same age and even though we weren't related through blood we were fast friends.Thus we called them ""Aunt Rogene and Uncle Tom"". Our parents met when they were in their 30's and all of us kids were just tikes.
 We spent lots of time with the Bordens and many happy childhood memories were made camping on the Pourder River. Scary stories were a specialty of my dad's and Uncle Tom's when we would sit around the campfire at night (we kids were so mesmerized we never noticed one of them sneaking off into the woods to add sound affects, so we were more frightened) We spent many holidays, birthdays and vacation time with them and the memories of our years in Colorado are filled with the Borden's.  Best of all, our parents remained friends throughout their lives even though they lived in different states. We have many pictures of our entwined lives and they are precious to us.  It isn't often that lives cross and remain intact for so long, and this is what we have with the Borden family. I feel truly lucky to have had my Uncle Tom in my life.  When I was little I was always in awe that he knew Smoky The Bear...I am very saddened by this loss but know what a great person he was and how much he contributed to this world.  Love you Uncle Tom!!!

We were shocked and saddened by Tom's death. We have many happy memories of golf and the forest and know you have, too.  Just know we're thinking of you.

Sincere condolences. Tom was a great guy always full of stories and humor. He was very supportive of the CSU Watershed Science program and of research in the Pingree Park /Littlle South Poudre area.

My sincere sympathies. I knew Tom when I was a forestry student at CSU in the 1970's, and then in the late 1980's when I certified my tree farm.

We are truly saddened by the news of Tom's death, and extend our deepest sympathies to you, Rogene, and your family.  I knew you as Mrs. Borden, when you taught English at Lincoln Junior High School, and am sorry we never met again, decades later, when we began our annual firewood trips up Rist Canyon to be greeted by Tom's friendly smile - always a highlight of our Autumn.  He was a man we think of as a friend, even after so few visits, and we will miss him.

When I was on the State Board Of Agriculture, I saw first hand how good of hands our forests in this state were in and how he protected our forests but at the same time helped the forest industry thrive by practicing good forest managment. Rogene and family, I've been thinking of you daily since hearing of Tom's death. Memories of Tom will keep him close through the years. Life really is just a collection of memories. We are thinkin of you and extend our deepest sympathy.

Tom was like a father and a pal rolled into one for me.  We shared lots of laughs and a few drinks, too.  I will miss him every day until I get to see him again in The Borden Memorial Forest, Celestial Division.  It was a rare pleasure knowing him.

Rogene, I first met Tom during one of the times he visited Ralph Winkworth here in NC. Later, after I became State Forester of SC, the first meeting of NASF I attended you all were the hosts at Steamboat Springs. Over the years I enjoyed working with Tom and serving both NASF and the SAF. He was always a gentleman and gave a special effort to seeing the current project through to completion.
