

Vern Fremont Rhoadarmer, 97, of Greeley, passed away Saturday, March 18, 2017 at his home. He was born on October 26, 1919 in Overton, Nebraska to Benjamin and Lulu Myrtle Rhoadarmer. His family homesteaded in Keota, CO and later moved to Lexington, NE.
Vern enlisted in the U.S. United States Army Aircorp/Air Force on December 2, 1941. He graduated on May 7, 1942 as an Airplane Propeller Mechanic in Chanste Field, IL. He fought in Egypt/Libya, Air Offensive Europe, Algeria French Morraco, Tunisia, Sicily, Napes-Foggia, Rome-Arno, Air Battle Balkans and Air Combat-Polesti. On July 16, 1942 he received the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal. During his time in the military, Vern received the following citations: Good Conduct, Distinguished Unit Badge with Bronze Oakleaf Cluster and American Defense Service Ribbon. He was honorably discharged on September 22, 1945 as Technical Sergeant 247 Army Airforce Base in Salina, KS.
On July 14, 1946, Vern married Bernice Grace Wolfe in Greeley at St. Paul’s Congregational Church.
Vern farmed and dairied from 1946-2005, until he retired and moved to Greeley. His wife brought him a scroll saw and his passion for woodworking was born. He loved making clocks, shelves and wall hangings. He had made several clocks for each one of his children. He also gave them to his siblings and grandchildren. Anyone who saw his handiwork admired and was awed by the workmanship and love he put into each piece.
He was a deacon and Gideon at his church in Fort Morgan.
Vern is survived by his children, Allen (Julie) Rhoadarmer, Gary (Linda) Rhoadarmer, Ed (Fay) Rhoadarmer, Sharon (Terry) Thomas and Lynette (Dave) Uhrich; brother, Clyde Rhoadarmer of Overton, NE; sister, Flora Rhoadarmer of Medford, OR; brother-in-law, Art Wolfe of Riverton, WY; 16 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Bernice and siblings, Ruth, Florence, Zella and Bertha.
Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at Stoddard Funeral Home. A private family interment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
