Virginia H. Reid, 92, of Pueblo, died Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at Memory Care at Seven Lakes in Loveland, Colorado. Virginia was born on July 20, 1922 in La Junta, Colorado to Charles Ellis and Edna Elnora (Chapman) Hargis.
Virginia was raised in La Junta and Pueblo, graduating from Pueblo Central High School. She worked as an Administrative Assistant for CF&I Steel Company until her marriage to William L. Reid on September 2, 1951 in Arlington, Virginia.
Virginia was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. Her children were her pride and joy, and she was a favorite of the young folks – both family and her children’s friends. She was a “second mother” to her youngest brother, her grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. In later life, she cared for her parents, nursing her mother in her home for many years. Her family is extremely grateful for her unconditional love and devotion.
Virginia and Bill were members of SonRise United Methodist Church in Pueblo, where they helped the Church in its move to Pueblo West and were proud contributors to the Building Fund. After Bill’s retirement, they volunteered together at the YWCA and Meals on Wheels.
Virginia is survived by her daughter, Marcia Martin, son, Scott (Susan) Reid; stepson, David (Nola) Reid; brothers, Charles (Linda) and Louis (Becky) Hargis; six grandchildren, Alexandra, Chris, Kelli, Terri, Lisa and Leslie; and many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her sister Betty Hargis Haynes, her stepson William A. Reid, and granddaughter Rochelle.
It was Virginia’s wish that there be no funeral service. A private remembrance will be held for her family and close friends at a later date.
Virginia’s family wishes to express special and heartfelt gratitude to the care team who contributed so lovingly to her end of life care: Nikki Dearborn, the staff of Memory Care at Seven Lakes in Loveland and the generous care team from Halcyon Hospice.
Memorial contributions may be made to The Fisher Center for Alzheimer’s Research Foundation (www.alzinfo.org/donate), SonRise United Methodist Church, or Meals on Wheels in Pueblo. Donations may be made in care of Stoddard Funeral Home, 3205 West 28th Street, Greeley, Colorado 80634.
