

The youngest of three brothers, Walt joined the Cub Scouts. He attended Greeley West High School, graduating in 1968. Walt enlisted in the Navy, first stationed in Fallon, Nevada, a Naval Air Base. He was then stationed on a destroyer in battle in Vietnam as a gunners mate. He was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1973 with a commendation from his ship’s captain. He married the love of his life, Winifred Pelner, on July 26, 1975. They would have been married for 50 years.
Walt was kind, compassionate, and extremely humorous. He was known for his shuffleboard skills and as a master chess player. Walt worked at Kodak, Colorado for 35 years as a production specialist, providing a wonderful life for his wife and family. He will be deeply missed by many.
Walt is survived by his wife, Winifred Magnuson; daughter, Emily Magnuson; and two grandchildren, Sophia and Dylan Skalsky; nieces, Amy Magnuson and Ann Magnuson; and great niece, Mia Bennett.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, David and Gary Magnuson; and sister-in-law, Shirley Magnuson, wife of Gary Magnuson.
A Celebration of Walt's Life will be held on Thursday, May 1, 2025 at Trinity Episcopal Church, 3800 W. 20th Street; Greeley, CO 80634. He will be inurned at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Greeley.
