Wayne Alden Slemons, a.k.a. "W. S." was born in Pawnee City, Neb. to June and Lola Slemons on March 21, 1938. He graduated from Pawnee City High School. Following high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was an Airplane Mechanic on the USS Intrepid. During his tenure he was one of the highest-ranking mechanics. He was very proud to serve his country and has shown his patriotism his entire life. After his Navy career, he moved to Greeley and began working as a mechanic, foreman, and heavy equipment operator at Best-Way Paving. Wayne became a long haul truck driver and found his passion for the trucking industry. This was his motivation to start his own business in the late 70's and established W.S. Repair, which he continued to operate until his death.
Wayne's reputation preceded him as a giving, caring, dedicated, and hard workingman. He had a great passion for his dachshunds and loved animals of all kinds. He enjoyed restoring classic John Deere tractors, farming and volunteered his time to bail hay.
There were many occasions he was called upon to pull the floats for the UNC Homecoming parades and for The Evans Day parades.
Wayne will be regarded as, "you'll never find a better man" by those who knew him well. He will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his son, Alan; and his parents, June and Lola.
