Wesley was born on May 13, 1956, in Greeley, Colorado to Herman and Anita (Janssen) Wonenberg. He grew up in the Kersey area and graduated from Platte Valley High School, in 1975. He held various jobs before starting his carpentry business in the late 1980’s. He entered Joyce A. (Baer) Wonenberg’s life in 1996 and they fell deeply in love. Wes and Joyce married on May 21, 2007, shortly after moving to their dream home in Red Feather Lakes, Colorado.
Wes was a light-hearted man who found joy in everything he did. He had a passion for wood working. He started out as a hobbyist and turned that hobby into a career. His specialty was interior trim, decks, patio furniture, and fireplace mantels. Wes could take an ordinary piece of wood and construct just about anything. Over the years, Wes crafted some exceptional items such as clocks, outdoor furniture, picnic tables, dressers and mechanical wooden wind vanes. Many of these items he gave to family and friends. He enjoyed music and loved to play guitar; frequently playing with a local group of friends. He enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing with friends. Being in the mountains was second nature to Wes. When Wes and Joyce moved to their cabin in Red Feather, it was the perfect combination between their deep love for each other and their mutual appreciation of nature.
Wes is survived by stepdaughter Julia (Kokes) Royall, brother, Martin Wonenberg, sisters RenaSue (Ray) Cross and RoxAnne Branch, nephews Troy Wonenberg, and Nathan Cross (Holly), nieces Tasia (Kenneth) Carmichael, Jennifer (Chris) Garcia, Danielle (Jay) Mason, and Amanda (Brad) Barré, six great nieces and three great nephews.
He is preceded in death by his wife Joyce (Baer) Wonenberg, and parents, Herman and Anita (Janssen) Wonenberg.
A celebration of life will be held Wednesday, November 19, 2025, at 10:00am at Allnutt Funeral & Cremation – Macy, located at 6521 W. 20th Street, Greeley, Colorado, 80634.
