Born in Wexford, PA to James Lindsay Goehring and Dorothy Brown Goehring, Wes moved to Clearwater, FL as a young boy. After earning a degree in chemistry from Oberlin College in 1960, Wes began work in the Research Labs at Eastman Kodak in Rochester, NY where he met his wife, Karen. In 1979, Wes and his family moved to Colorado to join upper management at the Kodak Windsor plant. After retiring in 1986, Wes became the owner/operator of Work Out West Fitness and Tennis Club until selling it in 2001.
Wes was a man of integrity, honesty, kindness, generosity, and humbleness. He enjoyed reading, bridge, lunching with friends, traveling, and community service. He believed that a community built on a foundation of volunteer services is a much better place in which to live. He was a member of the Greeley Rotary Club for 34 years and served several terms on the board of directors of Aims Community College Foundation (including president); the local chapter of the American Cancer Society; the Greeley Philharmonic Orchestra Association (president) ; the Greeley/Weld Chamber of Commerce (vice-president); the Mountain States Division of the Better Business Bureau (president & chairman); 1984 Campaign Chairman of the United Way of Weld County; and member of the Community Foundation serving Greeley and Weld County. One of his most rewarding experiences was driving cancer patients to their medical appointments in Greeley and Denver as part of the ACS Road to Recovery program. Wes and Karen received the 2017 Humanitarian Award from United Way of Weld County.
Wes leaves his devoted wife of 54 years, Karen, dear daughters Meg (David Klement) and Betsy (Brent Ross) and beloved granddaughters, Dorothy, Emma and Lindsay.
The family requests that any memorial funds friends and family may wish to donate on Wes’s behalf go to United Way of Weld County Endowment Fund. A celebration of life will be planned for a later date.
