

Wilda Catherine Powell, 94, of Fort Collins, CO, previously of Estes Park, CO, passed away in peace on June 28, 2016. Wilda was born in Union City Township, Iowa on September 6, 1921 to Mr. Sidney Bolton and Mrs. Elizabeth (Manley) Bolton. She spent most of her young life growing up in Creston, Iowa, graduating from the local high school. At the age of 18, she moved to Des Moines, Iowa. She attended a business college in Des Moines; later employed by Equitable Life Insurance as a Secretary. It was in Des Moines that she met the love of her life, Richard Ralston Powell. They were married in Des Moines on July 2, 1948 and shortly after, they moved to Davenport, Iowa. From then on, Wilda became a wonderful homemaker to her husband and 5 children; Peggy, Sali, Susan, Elizabeth and Ted. She was a beautiful seamstress, loved doing puzzles, and she especially loved to travel; nature and hiking were just a few of her passions. Her favorite spots to travel include Europe, Hawaii, Alaska, and numerous others. Wilda was a selfless and generous soul. She spent a lot of her time volunteering for the Altar and Rosary Society, Meals on Wheels, Parent Teacher Associations, and the Church, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish in Fort Collins.
Wilda was preceded in death by her husband, who passed in June 2012; her parents Sidney and Elizabeth Bolton; step-mother Matie Bolton; a daughter, Mary Ann Powell; two siblings, Harold Bolton and Dorothy Flynn; and two grandchildren, Ethan Powell and Ben Britt.
She is survived by her children; daughters Peggy (Paul) Snook, Sali (Greg) Buchel, Susan (Rick) Mylenbusch, Elizabeth (Roger) Baker; her son Ted Powell; sister Mary Sid McDonald; 11 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
The family would especially like to notice Lemay Avenue Health and Rehabilitation for their wonderful care the past two years of her life and St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish and Pathways Hospice for all their support.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish or Pathways Hospice. Services will be this Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, 5450 S. Lemay Ave., Fort Collins, CO, 80525. Rosary will begin at 9:30 a.m. followed immediately by the Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. After mass, Wilda will be committed to the Earth in Estes Valley Memorial Gardens, reunited at her husband’s side.
