William Charles Anderson

Bill married the love of his life, Marcia Lenox Castranova, on November 29, 1965 in Lawrence Township, New Jersey. They shared 40 years together before Marcia passed away in 2006. Bill resided in Jacksonville, Florida for 30 years before moving to Northern Colorado with his daughter’s family in 2012.

Bill proudly served in the United States Navy from February 1961 through August 1982, honorably retiring after 21 years of service as a Senior Chief Aviation Structural Mechanic. A veteran of the Vietnam War, Bill was highly decorated for his leadership and devotion to duty. His military honors included the Navy Achievement Medal with one star, Air Force Outstanding Unit Medal, National Defense Medal, Good Conduct Medal with three stars, and Vietnam Service Medal with three stars.

While serving in the Navy, Bill earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational Education from Southern Illinois University in 1978, graduating with high honors. After retirement, Bill began a new chapter in his working life with the United States Postal Service, where he worked until retiring after about 15 years.

Bill is survived by his daughter, Trista (Anderson) Gangestad and her husband, Jamie; his granddaughters, Kinsey Gangestad and Winnie Gangestad; and his brother, George Anderson. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marcia; his brother, Arthur Anderson; and his parents, William C. Anderson Jr. and Evelyn (Erbeck) Anderson.

Family was at the center of Bill’s life, and he had a deep and abiding love for those closest to him. He was especially devoted to his wife and daughter and also treasured being a Pop-Pop to his beautiful granddaughters. The love he had for his family was evident in the countless memories they shared and the special place they held in his heart.

Bill also had a love for travel and especially enjoyed going on cruises. He cherished the opportunity to see new places, experience new adventures, and make lasting memories along the way. One of his favorite quotes, “Not all who wander are lost,” perfectly captured his adventurous spirit and his love of discovering where life would take him.

In keeping with his wishes, no funeral service will be held. Bill will be laid to rest at sea with the United States Navy, following in the footsteps of his beloved wife, Marcia, who was also buried at sea by the Navy. It is fitting that his final journey will be at sea, a place that brought him so much joy, and that he will be reunited with Marcia there.
