Janet, it was good to talk with you again.  Bill was a very special person and I treasure our friendship.

Bill was widely known, loved, and respected by the amateur radio community in Northern Colorado.  He also had many ham friends far and wide  who he had contacted and many who he kept in touch with on the air daily and weekly. He had many stories to share with his ham buddies and had an enormous depth of knowledge and experience, particularly about radio and other technical topics.  His ham friends    here in Fort Collins will miss him and we wish to share our condolences with his family.

I became one of Bill's caregivers thru Visiting Angels in the Spring of 2007.  We instantly connected due to the fact my Grandfather was a 'ham' radio operator also.  We often visited about the 'ham' world.  In addition to that, we enjoyed each others company while watching Jepardy, Wheel of Fortune and most fondly - Lawrence Welk (reruns) on Saturday evening.  Bill blessed my life.  I will never forget this incredible year of being his caregiver, companion and friend.  I will miss him dearly & look forward to the day I see him again in HEAVEN!!

We have been reflecting upon the many fine times we have so much enjoyed with Bill and Janet. We especially recall those terrific dinners on the evening of New Years day. We have missed Janet for a long time, and we will now miss Bill. Our last conversation was over a year ago at lunch and we recall that his sense of humor and sharp mind were still with him. He told us wonderful stories that we will always keep with us.  Our hearts go out to Pat and Barbara for your loss of a father and we extend to you our deepest sympathies. But, given the great times we had, our memories of the Dirks will always make us smile.

We were saddened to hear of Bill's passing. Our thoughts are with the family during this time of mourning.

I am sorry to hear of your father's passing but it appears he had a long and happy life and he left a wonderful legacy in you and your family.

Bill was a great person,I enjoyed very much  my contacts with him on  SKYPE.

Bill was not only a friend, but a buddy.  Bill was stern with us kids, but fair.  He was kind and proper.  He is and will be missed by all that knew him.

So sorry to hear of your loss...but it sounded like he was blessed with the gift of a full life, and a peaceful death.

I had the good fortune to meet Bill some 15 years ago as I walked down his street and saw his antenna.  I knocked on his door, as hams often do, and was instantly welcomed by a guy you just had to like.  Since then, I have had the pleasure of talking with Bill several times a week. He always had a way of making you laugh. I will miss Bill; I was blessed to have known him.

Uncle Bill Dirks was a fine man.  He was very kind to me when I first came to Colorado, and he and his wife, Aunt Janet, always opened their home to me. I still miss her Lemon Chicken! Bill acted as a surrogate father when I was in need of help with my constantly failing cars.  We shared a number of laughs over the years, and I appreciated his wisdom and advice.  I will miss him.

I have known Bill for over 30 years from our common intrest in steam engines and ham radio. He will be missed.
