William “Bart” Gilreath, 78, of Greeley, died Sunday, June 22, 2014 at North Colorado Medical Center. He was born on January 12, 1936 in Grand River, Iowa to Harold E. and Ethel Dale (Day) Gilreath.

Bart was raised and educated in Grand River, graduating from Grand River High School.

Bart joined the US Navy on September 27, 1954. During his service time he received the Good Conduct Medal and Navy Occupation Service Medal. Bart attained the rank of SK2. He was honorably discharged on September 26, 1958.

On May 1, 1970, he married Doris Mae Michalik at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greeley, where they were members for 44 years. Bart was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Greeley Senior Citizens and the VFW in Coolidge, Arizona. He was also very active in the Senior Games, in which he played golf.

He moved to Greeley in 1960, working for Greeley Feed and Bean. He then went to work for Simplot Soil Builders in Greeley, later transferring to Gilcrest. He worked for Agland in Gilcrest until his retirement in 1998. In 1998 he had the honor of being his granddaughter’s very first babysitter.

Bart enjoyed early morning coffee at the Greeley Senior Citizens Center. He loved fishing, camping and playing golf.

Bart is survived by his wife, Doris of Greeley; daughter, Mary Gilreath (Mike Rothe) of Greeley; granddaughter, Dominique DiManna of Greeley; step-mother, Marg Gilreath of Florence, Arizona; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Judy and Bernard Michalik of Weldona and Donald and Donna Michalik of Kersey; step-sister, Diane Spots of Scottsdale, Arizona and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, James.

Recitation of the Rosary will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 27, 2014 followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m. both at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Inurnment Sunset Memorial Gardens. All are invited to a reception, following the committal service, at the Greeley/Evans Moose Lodge, 3456 11th Avenue, Evans, Colorado 80620. Sides dishes are welcome.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Greeley Senior Citizen Center in care of Stoddard Funeral Home, 3205 West 28th Street, Greeley, Colorado 80634.

Doris and Family, We were sorry to hear of Bill's passing. I enjoyed many mornings with Bill at the Senior Center working on puzzles and just talking. We will miss him. Our prayers are with him and your family.
