William Allen Holmes

William Allen “Bill” Holmes, 81 of Greeley, went to be with the Lord on November 4, 2015. Bill was born September 1, 1934 in Greeley, CO, to Gust and Alma (Ottoson) Holmes. Bill married Gertrude Timm on August 16, 1958 in Raton, N.M. She passed February 5, 2005.

Bill was a Weld County resident all of his life. He graduated from Wiggins High School. After serving in the U.S. Army, he and Gertie farmed when they first married. Later he worked with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, ASCS. He was with them for seven years. Bill then went on to work for Farm Credit Services, retiring after 21 years in 1991.

Bill was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Greeley and the Eaton Country Club. He was a member and President of both the Greeley T-Bone Club and the Greeley Evening Toast Master.

Bill enjoyed woodworking, yard work, and tending his rose garden. He built and gave toys to the Greeley Police Department for more than 10 years. He enjoyed family and his favorite past-time was spending time with his grandsons.

Bill is survived by his daughter, Tracy (Jay) Belk; brothers Milton and Doug Holmes; sisters Darlene Meyer, Louise Keirnes, Charlene Nordell, Bonnie Eckhardt, and Bobetta Kime; and grandchildren Jeremy and Brandon Belk.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Gertie; and sister Beverly Schaefer.

A visitation will be held from 5-7 P.M. on Monday, November 9, 2015 at the Allnutt Macy Chapel. Services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, November 10, 2015 at the First United Methodist Church. Interment at Sunset Memorial Garden.
