Winnie was born October 7, 1922 in Aberdeen, S.D. to Iva Poole Marlink and Richard F. Marlink. After finishing high school in Aberdeen, Winnie continued her education at Knox College and Northwestern College in South Dakota. She worked as a medical technologist at Fitzsimons Army Hospital in Aurora, Children’s Hospital in Denver, and the CDC Lab at Colorado State University.
Winnie married Donald Storeim, also from Aberdeen, in April 1945 and moved to Colorado. In 1953, they adopted their first child, Christina Carol and in 1955, Winnie and Don adopted Michael Russell. The family moved to Fort Collins in 1968. The Storeims enjoyed a broad range of outdoor activities, including camping, skiing, fishing, and horseback riding. In Winnie’s later years, she and Don traveled the U.S. and Canada on their motorcycle. Winnie was deeply devoted to Don Storeim, and bravely cared for him during his 15-year struggle with congestive heart failure. Donald Storeim passed away in November 1993.
Winnie was passionate about Bible Study Fellowship, and later launched Fort Collins’ Community Bible Study (CBS) program. Her efforts to enlighten others in the Word of the Lord have had a large and lasting impact.
In the later part of 1994, after learning of Don’s passing, Winnie received a phone call from her high school sweetheart, Jack Shedd. Their teen romance was rekindled, and in May 1997 they were married. Both were actively involved with Timberline Church, and its “Primetimers” group. Winnie and Jack enjoyed traveling the world together. The couple typically wintered in Los Angeles to be near Jack’s four children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, along with Winnie’s nephew.
Winnie suffered a debilitating hemorraghic stroke in January 2012. Jack never left Winnie’s side during her recovery and rehabilitation. He passed away on July 11, 2012 after a brief illness.
Winnie is survived by her daughter, Cris Edel (Dave), and son, Mike (Ellen) Storeim; grandaughters Betsy (Brad) Tallman, Amy Edel, and Mandy Storeim; and four great-grandchildren—Bryan, Brendan, Brent, and Brooke Tallman. She leaves behind her sister-in-law, Enid Marlink; Enid’s three children: Susan Lucero, Jennifer (Ed) Plunkett, Richard Marlink, Jr. and wife Kim Swann; great-nephews Nathan and Bryan Marlink; David (Raquel) Lucero and their daughters, Tiana and Stella; and four great-nieces: Kristin (Dave) Garcia and son Aiden; Megan and Caitlin Plunkett; and Miriam Marlink. Winnie was beloved by Jack Shedd’s four children and their spouses: John (Susan) Shedd, Jill (Chuck) Heathco, Rick, and Robert (Debbie); Jack’s grandchildren, their spouses and his great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Gladys Bork.
Winnie is preceded in death by her parents, Iva and Richard Marlink; a full brother, Dick Marlink; a half brother, Richard Marlink; her first husband, Donald Storeim; and her second husband, Jack Shedd.
A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held Saturday January 2, 2016 at 1:00 PM at Timberline Church,
