Woodrow (Woody) Russell, 87, of Greeley, passed away Saturday, April 23, 2011. He was born February 18, 1924, to William and Margaret (Branson) Russell in Slaughter, Kentucky.
Mr. Russell was reared and educated in Nashville, Arkansas, graduating from Nashville High School. At the age of 19, he worked in the Secretary of the Navy’s office. He was also a graduate of the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, and received a Master’s Degree from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas.
In October of 1955, Mr. Russell married Frances Phillips at Ridgecrest Baptist Church in Dallas, Texas. He worked for British American Oil for 5 years. He has lived in Greeley since 1967, and worked for the U.S. Treasury Department, retiring in 1988.
Woody (as he preferred to be called) enjoyed gardening, crossword puzzles, reading, and walking. He was a member of West Greeley Baptist Church, and a 50 year member of the Masons in Dallas, Texas.
He is survived by his wife, Frances; son, Kevin (Rohayah) of Boulder, Colorado; daughter, Lori of California; grandsons, Kyle, Steven, Patrick, and Alex; great-grandchildren, Wes and Charlotte. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, a brother, nieces, and a nephew.
Visitation 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at Stoddard Funeral Home. Funeral service 10 a.m. Thursday, at West Greeley Baptist Church. Interment at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
