Dorothy E. Sanders, 77, passed away Tuesday, October 18, 2011 after a short illness. She was born March 26, 1934 in Hofa Park, Wisconsin, to the late Anna and Leo Piotrowski. She graduated from Pulaski High School and then went on to beauty school.
While single and working in Green Bay, she enjoyed traveling, skiing, and other activities with her girlfriends. Later in life she met, fell in love with, and married John R. Sanders in October 1969. With their new life, newly built house, and a baby girl they were off to the life they treasured, unfortunately John’s life ended with a short battle with cancer on May 13, 1971.
Although her loss was overwhelming, with her strength, faith, family, and unselfish love, she built a full life for herself and her daughter. Dorothy began working in the lunch room at Holy Family School which lasted over 30 years, as well as a beautician at both Schauer & Schumacher Funeral Home and also later John Hansen Family Funeral Home.
She cherished spending time with family and friends and she was an avid golfer and walker. She loved morning swims at the YMCA and “Big O” where she met many wonderful people whom became life-long friends. Dorothy was an active member at St. Agnes Parish, chairing one of the cleaning crews at church. She also spent many years serving the community during elections for the City of Green Bay.
Dorothy is survived by Kathleen and Greg, Lorraine and John Cashman, Gene Swift, Richard and Marvel Sanders, Robert and Marilyn Sanders, and special friends, Don and Mary, Jan, Agnes, and her beloved “golf girls”.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Aurora Bay Care, Manor Care West, and Heartland Hospice and also send their deepest gratitude to Urban Schumacher and John Hansen for their enduring friendship.
