Bob Gail Rissler

Bob was born in Reelsville on July 16, 1928, the son of Clyde and Alma (Byers) Rissler, and was a graduate of Reelsville High School in 1946. He graduated from Purdue University in 1950 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture.

Mr. Rissler was a lifetime farmer in Putnam County. He was a lifelong member of Big Walnut Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon, Trustee, Moderator, Sunday School Teacher, and Youth Sponsor. He was a past member of Farm Bureau, a member of the South Putnam School Corporation’s first school board, and member of Boone-Hutcheson Cemetery Board. He also taught a Veteran’s Agriculture Class after the war. Bob was inducted into the Putnam County Agriculture Hall of Fame in 1993. He was awarded the Hoosier Homestead Farm Award in October of 2001. He was an avid woodworker, and one of his State Fair woodworking projects was selected to be displayed at the governor’s mansion in Indianapolis. He was also an avid gardener and mentor for youth in Putnam County.

Mr. Rissler married his wife of 65 years, Joan (Torr) Rissler on November 30, 1951, she survives. Also surviving are two children, Mike Rissler, (wife-Sandy), Reelsville, and Judy Off, (husband-John), Bunker-Hill; four grandchildren, Kristen Rissler, Lebanon, Kelsey Rissler, Reelsville, Justin Off, (wife-Stacey), Carmel, and Jessica McKeever, (husband-Zach), Lafayette; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Margaret (Rissler) Jackson.

Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 6, 2017, at Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Jim Walter and Pastor Kevin Johnston officiating. Burial will follow in Boone-Hutcheson Cemetery. Friends may call at Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 5, 2017, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. or one hour prior to time of service.
