Born August 22, 1928 in Putnam County, she was the daughter of Joseph Cecil and Etta (Baker) Knauer and was a graduate of Bainbridge High School. She married Melvin Wayne Ellis on May 17, 1947 and he survives.
Maxine worked at various fraternities and sororities at DePauw University. She had also worked at Gould’s Market and helped her husband in lawn care.
Survivors include her husband, Melvin; children, Kenneth Wayne (Phyllis) Ellis, Wanda Kay (Dr. James) Blume, Linda Fay (Robert) Nichols, Donald Wesley (Carol) Ellis, William Earl Ellis (Shirley), Russell Wayde (Janet) Ellis, and Rose Ann Ellis; a brother, Clifford Ray (Pat) Knauer; 17 grandchildren; several great and great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Felix and Claude Knauer, and sisters, Mary Day and Alice Pearl Roberts.
