Charles M McCullough

Charles McCullough enjoyed most of his life in Putnam County. He loved life on the farm as a child and young man including many years in 4-H with his hogs, ponies and Jersey cows. He loved the outdoors, animals, card games, hunting, music, horses, old television shows, squirt guns, and visiting with friends. For many years, he worked as a long haul trucker. He loved the long trips and often took his dog with him.

He enjoyed visits from family and most of all from his grandchildren.

Charles attended Fillmore High School. He later lived in the area for several years.

Charles served in the US Navy for a time and received an honorable discharge. He will be given military rites during the memorial service.

Anyone who knew Charles or Charlie was ready for a joke or prank. He was always trying to think of ways to get people to laugh. His greatest moments occurred when others tried to play a trick on him. He would catch them in the process and laugh boisterously. To the end, he kept his squirt gun close by.

Charles is survived by his four children: Jody McCullough, Tina Huff, both of Greencastle, Judy Simpson and Eric McCullough (Amber) of Nashville, IN. He has six grandchildren William, Samantha (Zach) Trivett, and Damen Huff; Jasmine and Steven Minnick and Ebony Means. He has two nieces; Amy Cobb and Rebecca Wilson. Janice (sister) and Lynn Montgomery, and very special family members have helped with his care in recent years.

Charles lived at Green Acres, Asbury Towers and currently at The Waters. He became very close to the staff at each location and thought of them as family. The family appreciates the help of staff at these facilities, Meals on Wheels, Area Agency on Aging, Rural Transport, Home Health Care friends, Heart to Heart Hospice Care and all those who were a part of his medical care. All went well beyond the expectations to care for Charles.

Arrangements are made by Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home in Greencastle. A memorial service will be held on June 25, Saturday, at 10:00 AM at the funeral home. Bill Wallace, friend of the family, will officiate the memorial service. The family will receive friends from 9:30 AM until time of service on Saturday at the funeral home. Cremation was arranged and his remains will be placed with his brother, Stephen Dale, who preceded him in death in 1980 and is at rest in the Coatesville Cemetery.
