Our mom, lovingly known as Butch, a nickname given to her prior to her birth, was born on August 28, 1937, to the late Alvin and Mary Wonders in Indianapolis. Butch was the third of five children.
Butch married Robert Edward Miles Sr. on January 28, 1954. Together Bob and Butch raised 8 children, Jacqueline Sue Miles, Cheryl (Richard) Hunter, Barbara Means (deceased), Gay Miles, Robert “Bob” (Andi) Miles Jr., Thomas Miles(deceased), William “Bill “(Kim) Miles, and Brenda “Sam“(Donnie) Custis.
Butch raised her eight children and ran a grocery store in Clinton Falls until the store was lost to a fire in 1972. She then worked multiple jobs including Headley hardware on Greencastle Square, PR Mallory, Angwell Curtain Factory, Wal-Mart, Country Folks Greenhouse, and Cottage Gardens. She continued to work until she was 80 years old when poor eyesight slowed her down.
Butch had always been an oil paint artist, ceramic enthusiast, jigsaw puzzler, quilter & sewist, porcelain painter, reader of many books, a piano player and most important of all a fabulous gardener!
Butch was grandma Butchie to 21 grandchildren and more great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren than she could count. She was also Aunt Butchie to all of our cousins.
She was loved by so many and will be dearly missed.
