Donald Thornton Irwin

Donald was born on November 11, 1927, the son of Elbert Gail and Frances M. (Thornton) Irwin, and was a 1947 graduate of Greencastle High School.

Mr. Irwin was a farmer all of his life, and he drove a semi-truck for Schwerman for 30 years until his retirement in 1985. He was a member of Long Branch Church of Christ and a member of the Teamsters Local 135.

Donald enjoyed being outdoors operating machinery whether it was a tractor or a backhoe.

Survivors include his two children, Donald R. Irwin, (Judy), and Susan Freire; a grandchild, Joaquin D. Freire; a brother-in-law, Dale Pierce; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 57 years, Barbara Joan Irwin; two brothers, Francis Gail Irwin and Robert E. Irwin; five sisters, Letha Cofer, Elinor Buis, Majorie Wallace, Dona Joan Pierce, and Carolyn Flint.

The family will have a private graveside service at a later date.
