Edwina Leaton

Born November 1, 1914 in Terre Haute, Indiana, she was the daughter of Charles W. and Mary M. (Franklin) Hamilton. She attended school in Terre Haute and Van Buren, Clay County, Indiana. She married George Kent Thompson, December 31, 1935 at Indianapolis, Indiana and later married Milbert Wayne Leaton, September 26, 1969 at Tuscola, Illinois.

Edwina was a homemaker, had worked at P.R. Mallory’s and as a manager for the Miller Jones Shoe Store. She was a member of The First Christian Church of Brazil, Indiana.

Surviving are her daughters, Loretta Saathoff, Sandra (Jerry) Ensor of Greencastle, Rita (Charlie) Fish of Coatesville, and Cheryl Thompson (Brant Bennett) of Indianapolis; ten grandchildren, Russell Saathoff, Jr,, Tony Saathoff, Jennifer (Keith) Mattox, Gerald Ensor, Jr., Melissa Ensor, Robin (Jim) Carroll, Ginger Bodnarick, Kelly (Russell) Monnett, Angela (Chris) Frank, and Sean (Crystal) Stapleton; 28 great grandchildren; and 12 great great grandchildren; a brother, Omer Hamilton of Tampa, Florida; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, brothers, Lafe, Charles, James, and Robert Hamilton; sisters, Madeline Hutcheson, Mary Olive Hutcheson, Grace F. Lovall, twin sister, Melvina Pell, and half-sister, Nora Gentz.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, February 12, 2015 at the Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home with Pastor Greg Hutcheson officiating. Interment will follow at the Brick Chapel Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM on Thursday until time of service at the funeral home.
