

Born March 22, 1932 in Greencastle the daughter of Estel and Mary (Hood) Shonkwiler and was a graduate of Greencastle High School “Class of 1949”.
Joan married Harold Alcorn on September 14, 1950, working on the family farm together. Joan was a homemaker, she loved spending time with family, sewing, and gardening.
She was a member of the Groveland Homemakers Home Ec Club and attended the Groveland Presbyterian Church and the Bainbridge UMC.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sister Clema Perkins; brothers Marshall Shonkwiler and Malcom Shonkwiler and a great granddaughter Anne Marie Lanie.
Joan is survived by her children Debra (John) Lanie, Ron (Jane) Alcorn, Dorothy (Bill) Hill, Jennifer (Roddy) King, and Camela (Rick) Johnston; sisters Loisdene Reeves and Roberta Scaggs; grandchildren, Chris Hutchens, Stephanie (Bryce) Jones, Alison (Jason) Lanie, Ryan (Lindsey) Hill, Jeff (Lauren) Hutchens, Tyler (Amanda) Gordon, Andrew King, Jay (Jennifer) Alcorn, Christa (Ronnie) Campbell, Kassie (Derek) Steele, Dustin King, Kyle (Stephanie) Alcorn and Lauren (Joel) Flanders; and 25 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, March 30, 2024 at the Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home. A private family interment will follow at the Groveland Cemetery next to the family farm.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 11:00 AM until time of service at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Joan to the donor’s favorite charity.
