George Evert Smith

George was born in South Bend, Indiana on April 24, 1934, the son of Robert and Ethel Smith. He had three brothers and one sister.

George was a U.S. Army veteran. He graduated from Butler University and worked as a chemist for the Indianapolis state police for over 30 years. He continued to enjoy the sciences throughout his life. He was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Greencastle.

He married Betty Pehan, who preceded him in death in 1974. He married June Wells in 1984 and was married to her for 36 years; she preceded him in death in 2021.

George is survived by a son, George Kevin Smith of Nashville, TN; and three stepchildren, Robin Palatine (Richard) of Dunwoody, GA, Debbie Tucker of St.Petersburg, FL, and Arthur Wells of Greencastle, IN; and three grandchildren Hailey Tucker of Chicago, IL, Trevor Palatine of Dunwoody, GA, and Brant Tucker of Denver, CO.

A private celebration of life will be held by immediate family.
