
Harriett was born in Emerson, Nebraska on January 12, 1926, the daughter of Lloyd and Myrtle (Heckens) Surber, and was a 1943 graduate of Greencastle High School.
Mrs. Hood worked for many years as a cook at both Asbury Towers and the American Legion, She also worked as a Bartender at the VFW for several years. She was a member of the Moose Lodge #1592, and was a lifetime member at the American Legion Auxiliary Post #58 and the VFW Auxiliary Post #1550.
Survivors include three children, Judy L. Knight, Michigan City, John L. Hood, (wife-Karen), Greencastle, and Terri Jackson, Greencastle; ten grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; eleven great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John Everett Hood; two children, Tim Hood, and Jim L. Hood; a brother, Harold Surber, and her son-in-law, Darrell Jackson.
Services will be held 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 13, 2017, at Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 11:00 a.m. until time of service on Wednesday.
