I know that the family has lost a very special loving mother and grandmother. But the communiity and indeed the nation has lost a true treasure. I consider myself extremely lucky to have known Helen Hurst. Many at South Putnam referred to her affectionately as "Nurse Hurst". My sincere sympathy to all of the family of Nurse Hurst.

To the Hurst family, Helen will sure be missed, Billy and I were cousins, and I would call Helen always on her birthday and we would talk of the good old days, and a couple of times more during the year, my good intentions of calling after I read the article in the Banner didn't get done, that really upset me, that was my lose. I will be with you up on the hill at Deer Creek in spirit My Dad/Mom are close by, RIP Helen

Beverly and Carolyn, I am so grateful and honored to be a part of your family. I will miss Aunt Helen very much. I've never met anyone more full of life than your mother. It was very important to me to make sure all four of my kids had the opportunity to know your parents and their home - it is a wonderful memory they will always have. Please know that we New York Hurst's are with you in prayer and thought. Love you !

Beverly and Carolyn, it was Harold's and my good fortune to have your parents as neighbors and my especially good fortune to know Helen through nursing. She used to set up a breakfast of PCH former co-workers during some of my Greencastle visits. One of our most hilarious get-togethers was with Emma Smedley, Mildred Barker, Helen and I at a luncheon where my little dog (illegally in the restaurant) escaped from her carrier under the table and trotted right past the waitress. The laughs continued at our last 2 visits the week before her death. I will miss her.
