He was born on September 8, 1931, in Putnam County, Indiana, to Ott and Bessie (Greenlee) Sears. A proud veteran, Jack served his country honorably during the Korean War. He was also a longtime member of the VFW in Greencastle, where he shared fellowship and camaraderie with fellow veterans and friends. Jack worked at IBM for more than 20 years.
Jack was a kind soul with a good sense of humor. He had a gentle spirit and a lighthearted way about him. One of his favorite expressions was simply, “Mercy,” which he would say with a grin and a sparkle in his eyes — a small phrase that said so much about his warmth and charm.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Norris (Buis) Sears; his parents, Ott and Bessie; three brothers, Gilbert, Eugene, and Don Sears; three sisters, Eva Eggars, Irene Sears, and Vera Osborne; and two sons, John and Dan Sears.
Jack is survived by two sons, Lance Sears and David Sears (and his wife Kelly); seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
His life will be honored in a private family service at Forest Hill Cemetery. Jack’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him — a reminder of the quiet strength, kindness, and laughter he brought into the world.
