

James was born in Groveland on November 11, 1919, the son of Chester and Elsie (Hinkle) Pickett, and was a graduate of Bainbridge High School.
Mr. Pickett proudly served in the United States Army during WWII. He was stationed in Africa, Italy and France. He worked at Handy’s Dairy, before working at IBM for 29 years as a manager. He was a member of F & AM Masonic Lodge Temple #47, Eastern Star, Scottish Rite, and Murat Shrine. He was also a member of the First Christian Church Disciples of Christ.
Survivors include his wife of 76 years, Vivian M. Pickett; four nieces, Patricia “Patty” Miller, Bobbie Jo White, Sue Ford and Ann Wilhiem; and a nephew, Wally Steele.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Basil D. Pickett; and a sister Mildred Pickett.
Services will be held 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 13, 2017, at Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home with Pastor Alan Small officiating. Entombment will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home from 12:00 p.m. until time of service.
