Joan was born June 8, 1938, in Beech Grove, Ind., to Edward Joseph and Thelma Antoinette (Hall) Staub. She moved with her family from Indianapolis to Greencastle in 1943. Joan was a 1956 graduate of Greencastle High School.
She married Robert Edward Taylor on July 6, 1957, celebrating 59 years of marriage before he passed on December 6, 2016.
Joan was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church where she was involved with the Ladies Guild and taught in the CCD program. After earning her real estate license, she worked with Jackson and Company Realtors before operating The Patio restaurant on the Courthouse Square with her husband. She worked at JC Penney, Ottawa Homes and Invest Putnam, and volunteered at the Putnam County Senior Center prior to retirement.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brother Edward Joseph Staub Jr.; and son in-law Charles Carlton.
Survivors include her daughters Amy Carlton of Flower Mound, Texas, Rita (Kevin) Hochstedler of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Lora (Patrick) Hott of Ravenna, Ky.; sons Daryl (Lisa) Taylor and David (Jenney) Taylor of Greencastle; nine grandchildren, Dannielle Hott (Matthew Estes), Ashton (Jerett) Query, Taylor Lynne Carlton; Kimberly H. (Chase) Webb; Callan (Zack) Watson, Emma (Chase) Frazier, Cory Taylor (fianc← Madison Rodgers), Conner Taylor (fianc← Emma Huber), and Carson Taylor; great-grandchildren Reese and Anniston Query, Theodore Watson, and Charles "Arlo" Webb; brother James (Nancy) Staub of Knoxville, Tenn.; sister Janet Staub Winn of Linton, Ind.; sister in-law Karen K. Staub of Carbon, Ind.; several nieces, nephews and extended family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church at 10:00 AM on Friday, July 31, 2026, with Father Suresh Edwards officiating. The family will receive friends for visitation at the church from 9:00 AM. until the time of service.
Burial follows at Forest Hill Cemetery in Greencastle. Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made in Joan's memory to the Ladies Guild Endowment at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church (202 W. Washington St., Greencastle, IN 46135).
