John Michael Doty
September 26, 1942 – February 12, 2020

John Michael Doty, 78, of Greencastle, passed away on Wednesday, February 12, 2020, at his residence surrounded by his family.
John was born in Atlanta, Georgia on September 26, 1942, the son of John Henry Doty and Doris (Carlson) Doty-Cain, and was a 1960 graduate of Southport High School. He pursued his Undergraduate Studies at Indiana University, then earned his Ph.D. from the University of Michigan in 1972.
Mr. Doty was a member of Canaan Community Church of Coatesville, and was very active in his church until his retirement after which he and his wife began to travel the country.
John was a Captain in the United States Navy, serving during the Vietnam War. He retired from the Navy after 33 years of service. He was a Professor for many years teaching at Indiana State University and Indiana University Medical Center.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Sharon Doty; a daughter, Angie Glaese, (Joe Rohrich), Colorado; a son Michael Doty, (Deanna), Illinois; a brother Allen “Hank” Doty, (Charlene), Missouri; a sister, LuEllen Doty, (Tim), Illinois; eight grandchildren; Joshua, Autumn,), Ashlee, Mitch, Jon, Ryan, Matt, and Devin; several great grandchildren including, Bailee, Everlee, Lakona, Colton, and Josie; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Jody Rohrman; a brother, Doug Doty; and a great grandson, Bentlee.
Services will be held 1:00 p.m. February 22, 2020, at Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home with Pastor Steve Anderson officiating. Burial will follow in Coatesville Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until time of the service on Saturday.
