John Clifford Mace

John Clifford Mace, 71, of Fillmore, passed away on Saturday, November 8, 2025, in Indianapolis after finishing the Indianapolis Monumental Marathon. John ran marathons for over thirty years, accumulating 64 plus medals.

Born August 7, 1954, in Brazil, IN the son of John Harold and Donna Jean (Gaddis) Mace. He was a graduate of Greencastle High School “Class of 1972”.

John entered the United States Navy in 1973 and was honorably discharged from the Naval Reserve in 2004. After his discharge he went on to receive his bachelor’s degree from Indiana State University and earned a Master of Business Administration in health care management from Colorado Technical University.

John was employed by the Indiana Department of Corrections for 36 years as a counselor. He was also employed by Res-Care as a youth counselor and Plainfield RDC counselor.

He also coached Little League and Ponytail youth organizations in the Fillmore & Greencastle Area for several years. He was a lifelong baseball card collector, New York Yankee, and Indianapolis Colts fan. Enjoyed golf with brothers and friends. Also spent quiet times playing guitar.

He was preceded in death by his father, John H. Mace; mother & stepfather Donna Jean & David Duell; and nephew J.D. Miller.

John is survived by his wife of 51 years Rhonda (Wichmann) Mace; son Jayson Mace; daughter Jonna Mace; siblings, Judy Mace, Jack ( Mary Jane) Mace, Jerry (Lois) Mace, Jan Mace, Jean Miller, Jeff (Tracy) Mace, and Jim (Christa) Mace; grandchildren Madyson and Jayln Mace; cousins Patty, Pam, Cindy, Bob, DeeDee, & Lynn; and several nieces and nephew.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, November 14, 2025, at the Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home. Interment will follow at the Brick Chapel Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Friday from 11:00 AM until time of services at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made in memory of John to the St. Judes Children’s Hospital or the J.D. Miller Leadership in Education Scholarship Fund @ Indiana State University.
