John Charles Sears Sr.

Born November 4, 1932 in Putnam County, he was the son of John Charles and Ethel Rebecca (Boatright) Sears and was a graduate of Fillmore High School. He married Beverly M. (Liptrap) Sears and she preceded him in death on July 10, 2011.

John was a veteran having served in the United States Army. He had farmed and worked in accounting at IBM for 27 years, retiring in 1986. He was a member of the First Christian Church Disciples of Christ, Masonic Temple Lodge, and past president of the S.A.R.

Survivors include his children, John Chester Sears, Rebecca “Becky” Sears, both of Greencastle, and Charles “Chuck” Sears and wife, Alison of Westfield; six grandchildren, John Joseph Sears, Sarah Sears, Scott Sears, Megan Sears, Morgan Sears, and Savanna Sears; a great grandson, John Christopher Sears; and a sister, Ann Ellen (Don) Austin of Crawfordsville.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at the Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Paul Champion officiating. Interment with military rites will follow at the Forest Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 4-8 pm on Tuesday, April 16th at the funeral home with a Masonic Lodge Memorial service to be held at 7:00 pm.
