Joyce Anne Sallust Braden (age 90) died peacefully in McCordsville, IN on July 25th, 2026 in the early morning hours before dawn. We mourn, "Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted," Matthew 5:4; And, we celebrate the beautiful life Joyce lived. “Well done, my good and faithful servant," Matthew 25:21; while rejoicing that Joyce is now living in eternity with our Lord Jesus. Born in Greencastle, IN on February 3rd, 1936 to the late Clyde Rayburn & Miriam (Louise) Sallust, the most important thing to Joyce was having accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior, and to love all people. Joyce was a graduate of Greencastle High School and dreamed of becoming a writer and living on the east coast someday. She completed a semester at IU Bloomington before getting married and having five children. The delight of Joyce’s heart and favorite time of her life was to raise her five children. Joyce resided in Greencastle for 76 years and was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church, where she was the Founding Director of the First Baptist preschool. For over 37 years Joyce dedicated her professional life to teaching countless numbers of preschool aged children. She was gifted at making children, and really anyone, feel special, loved, and noticed. Joyce was an avid reader who loved writing, planting flowers, painting, drawing and also writing poetry. She was so proud of the adults each of her children became. As a Mom, friend, and person she was a daily example of the scripture from James 1:2-4, which says "Consider it all joy my brethren," no matter what trials you face in this lifetime. Also known as "Nana," she loved spending time with her grandchildren, going to their events and doing special activities with her during their visits to Greencastle. She spent her latter years in the Fishers, IN area, closer to many of her children. Joyce leaves a surviving sister, Jean Sickmann (Richmond, IN) and five surviving children, Jona (Atlanta), Jana Millard (Bob, Indianapolis), David (Fishers), Mark (Fishers), Carol (Fishers), & Terressa Braden (Fishers, daughter of her heart), along with 11 grandchildren & 21 great grandchildren: Ryan (Kristin — Braden, Gia & Maverick), Brett (son, Elijah), Craig (Mahsa — Zara, Reza & Zayn), Erik (Keity — Claire & Leo), Sarra (Michael — Jossalynn, Grayson, Hayes & Hudson), Grant (Erin — Mack & Beau), Jennifer (Todd — Taylor & Riley), Matthew (Caitlin — Giselle & Will), Amanda (Serif — Tarik & Noa), Mia & Samuel. Joyce also leaves her surviving nieces Karen, Nancy & Suzanne, along with several great nieces & nephews; while remembering her nephew Brian. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, August 1, 2026 at the First Baptist Church Greencastle, IN. Graveside will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery.
