He was born April 19, 1940 in Freedom, IN, the son of Emil and Margaret (Summerlot) Cooper and was a graduate of Bainbridge High School “Class of 1959”
Lyle retired from IBM in 1993, where he had been a parts analyzer. He had also worked at Black Lumber, and owned Cooper Craft. He was member of the First Baptist Church, IBM Club, and a former member of the Lions Club. Lyle was a former Eagle Scout and Boy Scout Troop leader. He was active with South Putnam football, and coached Little League and Babe Ruth baseball in Fillmore. Lyle loved doing woodworking and helping others with woodworking and construction projects.
He is survived by his wife, Jean Pursell Cooper; his children, Margee (husband, Scott) Raplee, Tom (wife, Laura) Cooper, and Tim (wife, Janet) Cooper; stepchildren, Mike (wife, Kristine) Pursell, Barbara (husband, Keith) Murphy, Lynda (husband, Jeff) Wells, and Nancy (husband, Doug) Chapman; brothers, Estel Cooper and Gary (wife, Marian) Cooper; a sister, Rosie Wood; grandchildren, Jacob Bradley, Josh Scott, & Sarah Jean Raplee, Taylor & Austin Stethen, Maxwell Joseph & Mallory Karen Cooper; stepgrandchildren, Kramer & Olivia Pursell; Alyssa Reps, Matt, A.J. & Nick Wells; and four great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Karen Gorham Cooper in 1995; his parents; and sisters, Phyllis Logelin and Ella Minnick.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, August 4, 218 at the Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home. Entombment will follow at the Stilesville Cemetery, Stilesville, IN.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00 PM on Friday, August 3rd at the funeral home.
