

Peggy Spencer, 84, of Greencastle passed away peacefully on October 9, 2026.
Peggy was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on February 16, 1942 to George and Margyl Anthony. Peggy moved to Greencastle in the 6th grade and graduated from Greencastle High School in 1960.
Peggy was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Bill Anthony.
Peggy married Clyde Spencer, Jr. in 1960 and just recently celebrated the 70th anniversary of their first date. Peggy and Clyde had 4 children, James Spencer (Elizabeth), Barton Spencer (Sophia), Marcia Owens (Joe), and Alison Paolino (Frank). Peggy has 11 grandchildren (Haleigh, Hannah, Hank, Clay, Cy, Lily, Maggie, Carl, Natalie, John and Katherine) and 5 great-grandchildren (Soren, Viggo, LaVada, Maeve, and Owen).
Peggy enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren participate in sports, concerts, and plays, always taking pride in their many talents and accomplishments. In her free time, Peggy enjoyed reading, sewing, and gardening, even earning the title of Master Gardener.
While raising her family, Peggy held various positions at First Christian Church, David Greenberg Accounting Services and the County Surveyors Office. Peggy loved to learn and decided to attend St. Mary’s-of-the-Woods and graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1992 in Paralegal Studies. Peggy then worked as a paralegal at Fleschner Fleschner Stark Tanoos and Newlin in Terre Haute, Indiana for 10 years.
Peggy was deeply committed to education and her community, generously giving her time and resources through volunteer service and philanthropy. In 1963, Peggy was initiated into the Greencastle Beta PSI chapter of Tri Kappa. Over the years Peggy held many positions, including President of the local Tri Kappa Chapter. Peggy went on to serve on the state level as
Province Officer, Cross Keys Editor, and even State President from 1993 - 1995. Peggy also served on the Board Of Trustees at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, October 15, 2026 at the Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home. Interment will follow at the Forest Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until time of service on Thursday at the funeral home.
Peggy’s family would like to thank The Waters of Greencastle and Elara Caring Hospice for the loving care they provided.
Donations in Peggy’s name may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Riley Children’s Hospital.
