Mary was born in Greencastle on February 7, 1931, the daughter of Charles and Lucy (Green) Pettit, and was a 1949 graduate of Greencastle High School.
Mrs. Grimes worked for 28 years at DePauw University retiring as a Secretary of the Management Fellows Program.
Survivors include her daughter, Lissa Cady (William), Greer, South Carolina; a brother, Michael Dunkin, (Sylvia), Greencastle; a daughter-in-law, Jana Grimes, Grinnell, Iowa; four grandchildren, Emily Glen, Eric Starr, Jerry Grimes, and Stephen Cady; six great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William O. Grimes; a son, Bruce Grimes; and a brother, Gordon Petit.
Services will be held 1:00 p.m. Monday, September 13, 2021, at Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home with Pastor Jim Staggers officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until time of service on Monday.
