

Born October 21, 1942 in Greencastle the daughter of James and Martha Ellen (Rector) Johnson. She was a graduate of Greencastle High School where she acted in many plays, played French horn in the band, and swam on the synchronized swimming team. She married Michael Webb on February 9, 1963. Kay completed college at IUPUI while raising her two daughters. Kay received her Master’s Degree from Butler University. Later, after Kay and Mike divorced, Kay married her childhood friend from Greencastle, William Rader, on October 12, 1991.
Kay worked at the Indiana State Welfare Department, White River Psychology and developed her own private practice as a psychotherapist specializing in the treatment of PTSD. She received training from the FBI in hostage negotiations. She went on two mission trips to Africa to train local ministers in PTSD therapy for people suffering from violent civil wars in Sierra Leone and Cote D-Ivoire. Kay was a member of the North United Methodist Church in Indianapolis, serving the youth group on the Appalachian Service Project and ski trips. Kay loved animals and enjoyed volunteering at the Humane Society in Indianapolis as a dog walker. She was always writing stories, one of which was published in a local review about the Ravenswood neighborhood and its local wildlife and scenery by the White River.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and brothers James Johnson Jr and Charles Johnson and her daughter Hillary (Thomas Harrison) Webb.
Kay is survived by her husband William Rader; daughter Heather (Gene) Hsu; grandchildren Aiden Hsu and Andrea Gammon; great grandchildren Christopher Blair and Mariah Clark.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, January 11, 2025 at the Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home. Inurnment will be held at a later date at the Forest Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until time of service on Saturday at the funeral home.
