Richard Rex McCurry Sr, born December 3, 1951 in Greencastle, Putnam County, Indiana to Jewell Alxander McCurry and Juanita Jean Judson. Richard passed away on Friday, October 30, 2020 at home in his sleep with family and friends around his bedside.
Richard served in the United States Air Force Reg AF. He entered active duty October 21, 1970, October 8th 1972 to August 30th 1974 Honorable Discharge, A1C F-3 from Langley AFB Hampton VA. Decorations medals, badges, commendations, citations, and campaign ribbons and awards. He was in Vietnam during the War. He served his country because he loved his country. He is a member of American Legion Post #104, Terre Haute.
Richard retired from Hoffa Security, where he had worked as a security guard. He had previously served as the Sheriff of Roachdale, IN, worked as a jailer in Marion and Putnam Counties and for the Greencastle Police Department.
He loved hunting, fishing, camping and spending time with his family. He was an animal lover. He loved spending time on his CB radio.
Richard is survived by his wife, Rebecca “Becky” Ellinger McCurry, whom he married on December 6, 2007 in Terre Haute, IN.
He is also survived by his two sons, Richard R. McCurry Jr. of Terre Haute & Dustyn Richardson of Greenwood; two daughters, Michelle (Randy) Barnett, Anna (Jesse) Cavaness, both of Greencastle, April McCloud & Ronnda McCloud, both of Terre Haute; Jared (Brandi) Mancourt of St. Bernice; grandchildren, Joshua Hargroves, Elizabeth Paige McCurry, Rebekah Tater McCurry, Cameron (Mariana) Barnett, Katlynn (Cody) Bell, Angel Cavaness, Matthew Cavaness, Emily Cavaness, Bradley Travioli, Annamarie McCloud, Precious Johnson, Charles (girlfriend, Caitlyn Bealmear) McConnell, Allan Powers, Joshua Tate, Stormi (Chase) Jones, Gage Mancourt, James Mancourt, Lyhtning Mancourt, and Greyson Richardson; great grandchildren, Mackenzie Barnett, Christian Barnett, Brayden Bell, Madison Hyland, Hailey Hayland, Jasmin Cavaness, Zayvier McConnell, Dmitn Jones, Delta Jones, Stella Jones, and one on the way; mother-in-law, Betty Ellinger; sisters-in-law, Sharon Ellinger, Linda Southard, Ella Lowe, Penny (boyfriend, Steve) Bauer, Robin (boyfriend, Bill Radford) Rasor, and Bertie (Harlan) Budd; special nieces, Vicky Rozzi & Sherri (Derrick) Wagner, both of Arkansas, brother-in-law, Ed Mitchell;and other nieces, nephews & cousins; friend, Molly Dotts, and special friends that have been there for us when we need them , no matter what it is , Shelia and Jack Vestor. And his cousin, Carolee Buis.
Richard went home to be with the Lord, joining his Parents; a brother, Ronald McCurry; father-in-law, Charles Ellinger Sr.; his 4th wife, Lana Sue Hunter-McCurry five brothers-in-law, Charles “Pune” Ellinger Jr, Mark Ellinger, Terry Bauer, Ray Southard, & Richard Jenkins; and a sister-in-law, Edith Jenkins.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, November 4, 2020 at the Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home. Interment with military honors will follow at the Forest Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until time of services on Wednesday at the funeral home.
